2024 was the launch year of the A600GS games system. For our small team it proved to be a challenging product to develop. As in most computer projects, the software development always takes the most effort. To date, two and a half years have been invested into just the A600GS core software.
In the absence of having a large group of programmers working on the project, we opted for a gradual iterative approach to improving the system. The online system updates built into the A600GS let us push updates almost weekly. These updates responded to user requests for new features and bug fixes.
After nine months of continuous updates, the A600GS is now reaching maturity. Recent user feedback has been excellent and encouraging to us. Many users are enjoying using the system regulary.
Introducing The A1200 NG

In December 2024, we revealed a new project to the community, the A1200 NG. We started taking orders for our enthusiastic customers at the official website: a1200ng.com
The A1200 NG is a brand new motherboard which can be installed in the old Commodore/ESCOM 1200 cases or even third party reproduction cases. We are even developing a A1200 tower version of it in our own bespoke case.
Specifications
Much like the A600GS, at the heart of the A1200 NG is an ARM SBC. This gives the opportunity to have modern features such as wireless internet, bluetooth and HDMI compatibity. The A1200 NG has 4GB of system memory and either 64GB or 128GB storage. Additional storage can be added by the user.
Connectors

The really exciting features are the legacy ports:

9-pin Joystick ports: plug in a 9-pin Commodore compatible joystick. Great for the those Classic games!
Floppy disk drive connector: read and write 880K, 1.76MB disks and even disks from other formats. Plug in your 34-pin data cable and connect your old floppy disk drive to read your floppy disk collection. The floppy disk support is powered by Keir Frazer’s excellent Greaseweazle technology.

Keyboard ribbon connector – use your old keyboard from the Commodore/ESCOM 1200 machines or third party reproductions.
Compact Flash connector: plug in your old CF hard drive and access your files.
25 pin Serial connector for connection of older MIDI interfaces and other serial devices. Hook up the A1200NG to a Classic system to play multiplayer games.
Left and Right audio out RCA connectors for outputting the great sounds of Paula. A CDDA input port is included to mix the sounds from any optical drives that output CDDA.

There is of course a header to connect the AmigaKit A1200 Triple LED adapter for the case lights (power, hard drive activity and floppy drive activity).
Of course, USB headers are on the motherboard for connection of USB to SATA or USB to IDE adapters. There are also USB ports are present on the back plate of the A1200 NG. These are useful for connection of mice, joysticks and various other devices.

Software
You can optionally boot into your own licenced classic system after you have installed a matching ROMS and OS onto the A1200NG.
From the factory the A1200NG is equipped with AmiBench desktop, OctaMED 8, Final Writer 7.2, Directory Opus 4, Personal Paint 7.4 and many games to get started.
Future Developments
Amistore App Store from A-EON Technology is arriving shortly for both the A600GS and A1200NG. This app store will allow community developers to sell their new games and applications to the growing user base.

Faster ARM CPU support options are also being developed to bring “accelerator” options for A1200NG users.
Trivia
The computer is given the NG suffix which is short for Next Generation.
There is a long running tradition, started originally by Commodore engineers, on having The B-52s song titles on the motherboards. The A1200NG board is no exception to this tradition as it features Future Generation on the silkscreen. Its our small homage to the defunct Commodore company and the engineers who inspired us.
